Interesting Story
I only got to compete for one year in college because I couldn't stay healthy. There was so much emphasis on being thin that I was constantly under-fueling and over-working in training. There was no such thing as easy running back then. I spiraled into depression and ultimately left the sport for nearly 4 years. After moving back from South Korea in 2015, I began running again for my mental health. I started with just 3 miles, once per week and before I knew it, I was training for my first half marathon. Two years later in 2018, I qualified for the 2020 Olympic Marathon trials. I share this just to say that everyone's journey is different. I didn't really get to compete in college and I had to learn a lot of hard lessons along the way, but ultimately, it led me here and I am so grateful that it all worked out the way it did.

"Some days it just flows and I feel like I’m born to do this, other days it feels like I’m trudging through hell. Every day I make the choice to show up and see what I’ve got, and to try and be better. My advice: keep showing up." -Des Linden
