Family
I am unmarried. I have 3 siblings, Jennie, Laura and Kevin, and my parents are Jim and Bev. Both of my parents and all my siblings ran at the NCAA Division I level. All but Laura attended Iowa. Jennie was a Team Captain her senior year and ran 2:15 for the 800m. Laura went to the University of Minnesota, where she set a school record in the 10,000m and was an All-Big Ten performer. Kevin was awarded the Big Ten Medal of Honor during his senior season. Jim was an All-American in the DMR while at Iowa and qualified for the Olympic Trials in the 1,500m in 1980 but didn't compete. Bev qualified for and finished the first six U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials, from 1984-2004.
Interesting Story
I made my first official attempt at an OTQ in 2015 when I tried to run the 2016 half marathon standard of 1:05 and came up short in my debut, running 1:08. You can see what training can do when you fast forward four years to January 2019, when I qualified for my first Olympic Trials after running 2:18:27 in my debut marathon at Houston. I trained with Team USA Minnesota (now Minnesota Distance Elite) from 2017-2021. I am now self-coached and train on my own while managing responsibilities as a coach and program director at two non-profit organizations and self-employment at my personal coaching business.

Favorite Running Memory
I remember qualifying for the State track meet my sophomore year being a major thrill and memory. I hadn't really thought about it all year as I was racing the 800 and 1,600 but in the final two weeks of the season realized that it was possible. So I ran my first 3,200m race about a week before Sections and then went into Sections and placed 2nd to qualify. I also have a great memory of winning the TC 10 Mile in 2021, which was another accomplishment that I didn't really expect.
