Family
My husband is Ben Mow. My parents are David and Jana Benjamin. My sibling is Evan Benjamin. My dad was a collegiate runner and has coached high school track and cross country for years. He was my first running coach, and his will always be the first phone call I make after a race if he’s not there.
Greatest Accomplishment
I went to school for mechanical engineering, but along the way I found myself interested in the “people” side of designing and building. After a zig-zagging path of trial and error, with both fun and tough experiences along the way, I found myself in the field of human-centered design and user-experience research. I now get to work with a variety of organizations, such as government agencies, to conduct people-focused research and co-design to improve the way products and services work. I feel fortunate to get to do a job that is meaningful to me, and allows me to run!
Interesting Story
I ran in middle school, high school and college. After college, I felt burned out and took time off from competitive running, giving myself space to explore other things - backpacking, climbing, and trail running for the fun of it. I also started coaching track and cross country at the high school level. It was healthy and life-giving to learn how to foster all that initially pulled me toward running: learning how to challenge yourself, trying and sometimes failing in a safe space, being a good and accountable teammate, celebrating wins with a team, building lifelong healthy habits, devoting yourself to your sport - but knowing that’s not all of your identity. Over the past seven years, the team and the amazing coaches I work alongside have inspired and reminded me of all that I valued when I first started, and making space for other things I value has brought me balance. Being with the team has returned joy and playfulness to running, as has running in the mountains with my husband, Ben, and my dog, Fitz. I started racing again in late 2021, with a new perspective and no expectations, just a love for running.
