Family
Both of my parents served in the Army and were 1990 graduates from West Point. While not competitive runners, both of them got into marathoning while serving. To this day, my mom still gets out to run and seeks revenge on Boston's course after racing in 2016. My dad retired from the Army in 2015 (entering into my senior year of high school). Their care and desire to live a purposeful life instilled similar values into my life.
My brother also graduated from West Point in 2022 and is currently serving. He doesn't run competitively, but also ran XC/Track in the youth USATF circuit and in high school with me.
Greatest Accomplishment
When life seemingly falls to pieces, learning to pick up the pieces and begin again. I have had a lot of people believe in me and a lot that have told me I am not good enough. Accepting that both can coexist and still move forward in life, accepting yourself as you are, is one of the largest challenges any normal person can work through.
Interesting Story
I will spare you the details in writing it all out. Tommy DeLaunay wrote a piece for Milesplit on my journey to the marathon here: https://nc.milesplit.com/articles/315045/kate-sanborn-found-belonging-with-the-marathon

Fat burger + salty steak-cut fries dipped in a milkshake

“Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.” - Winston S. Churchill
Favorite Running Memory
My time running with the Fayetteville Flyers (a local youth USATF club team in NC). The coaches and my teammates through the years are the reason I love running the way I do today.
